The vintage Little Cleo (HULA GIRL) spoon lure features a dancer on its back side. This iconic lure was originally produced by the Seneca Lure company before being acquired by Acme in the early 1980s. While modern Little Cleo lures are still made by Acme, the image of the dancer is no longer included. Despite this, many anglers hold the belief that it was the dancer that brought success to Little Cleo and made it so famous and beloved.
Seneca Tackle Company
The Seneca Tackle Company was founded in 1951 by American songwriter and music publisher C.V. "Charlie" Clark in New York City.
Key Product: The primary and most famous lure that Seneca created and produced was the Little Cleo spoon, introduced in 1953.The Inspiration: Clark designed the lure after being inspired by the swaying motion of an exotic dancer he saw in the 1930s, who he allegedly named Cleo. His rationale was that fish would be entranced by the bait in the same way he was captivated by the dancer.
